Pickleball enthusiasts and fans around the world watched in awe as Selkirk Sport's sponsored professionals clinched all 8 gold medals at the 2023 PPA "Tournament of Champions" held in Brigham City, Utah. Tyson Mcguffin and James Ignatowich battled with the Labs Project 002 Paddle, Catherine Parenteau impressed with the new Prestige Edition of the Power Air, and Parris Todd opted for the Raw Carbon Fiber surface of the Labs Project 006.
The "Triple Crown" Achievers
Tyson McGuffin and Catherine Parenteau left spectators and competitors stunned, not only by their individual performances but by their collaborative achievements as well. Both players achieved the much-coveted "triple crown" - a monumental feat of winning in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
For McGuffin, this weekend was particularly sweet. In his 7-year illustrious career as a pro pickleball player, this was his very first Triple Crown. He dominated the singles, paired with James Ignatowich to take home the gold in men's doubles, and completed the trifecta with a victory in the mixed doubles category.
Catherine Parenteau, on the other hand, was no stranger to the Triple Crown, having clinched it once before. However, this did not make her win any less impressive. She dazzled in the singles defeating Salome Devidze in straight sets, joined forces with the talented Parris Todd to take women's doubles, and paired with McGuffin for mixed doubles, securing three gold medals to her name.
New Partnership Victories
The chemistry between Tyson McGuffin and James Ignatowich was palpable. This 2023 partnership hit its stride at the perfect time as the duo synchronized their play seamlessly, confidently moving through the bracket and making the adjustments as needed. Both players chose to play with the Selkirk Labs 002 Paddle known for it's power and spin capabilities.
The pair went went down 0-2 in the best of 5 championship match, but maintained their composure, rallied, and upset Riley Newman and AJ Koller 5-11, 4-11, 11-0, 11-7, 11-8 in one of the most electric game 5's we have ever seen.
