The USA Pickleball Margaritaville Nationals came to a close with all the excitement, drama, and of course, outstanding pickleball you could ask for!

Men’s Singles

Julian Arnold and Ben Johns faced off for the men’s singles final for the best of 5 and showed off their athleticism throughout the match. Johns and Arnold split the first two games, but Ben Johns took over in games three and four, finishing the match on an 11-0 win.

Women’s Singles

Anna Leigh Waters was business as usual on Sunday in Women’s Singles as she took care of Lea Janson 11-5, 11-7, 11-6. This is Water’s 14th singles gold medal in the last 15 tournaments she’s played with her only loss coming to Parris Todd back in June.

Men’s Doubles

JW Johnson and Dekel Bar came out of the winners bracket and had the odds in their favor at the start of the match with Ben and Collin needing to beat them in the 3 out of 5 and an additional game to 15 if they wanted to win. The Johns brothers did just that, and in straight sets no less, outscoring Johnson/Bar 49-22.

Women’s Doubles

The Women’s Doubles Match brought about the closest match of the day as Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau took on Jessie Irvine and Anna Bright. Parenteau and Waters found themselves in a 2-0 hole in this best of 5 series but found their rhythm in the nick of time in game 3 winning a tightly contested game, 11-9. From there on out, it was all Parenteau and Waters as they ended up winning the match 7-11,9-11,11-9,11-4,11-4.

This was the first time, at least in recent memory, that Anna Leigh has played Women’s Doubles with someone other than her mom, Leigh Waters. Waters had little trouble adjusting, and continues to prove she is the most dominant figure in pickleball this year no matter her partner.

Mixed Doubles

This perhaps was the most intriguing matchup of the day with the never before seen partnership of Anna Leigh Waters and Riley Newman. Let’s just say it worked..

Newman and Waters dominated every aspect of the game vs Ben Johns and Catherine Parenteau, outsourcing them 33-6 in a quick 3 games. Although Johns and Waters have been dominant all year long in their own right, it leaves you wondering if a Newman/Waters partnership is in the future…
