Let's face it, pickleball is a sweaty sport. You're playing long, intense matches, often outside or in clubs with low airflow. And some of us are more sweat-prone than others.
If you've been blessed with overactive glands, here are some items you should consider having with you.
1. Sweat towel
This is a no-brainer. Of course, you should have a sweat towel on hand. The grip of your paddle can become slippery, causing you to mishit the ball. Use a towel to get rid of sweat in between rallies. You can also use a tacky towel to help get some extra grip on your paddle.
2. Pickleball gloves
Sweaty hands are no joke. Consider wearing pickleball gloves to keep your grip dry and secure, ensuring your level of play stays high. These gloves can be a game-changer for those who struggle with maintaining a firm hold on their paddle.
3. Extra overgrip
It's also good to bring extra overgrip to replace your dirty or un-tacky grip. A fresh overgrip can make a significant difference in your performance by providing a consistent and comfortable hold.
4. Moisture-wicking clothes
Wear clothes that can help combat sweat. Many are purposely designed to wick moisture away from your body, keeping you comfortable and dry throughout your matches. Look for breathable fabrics that enhance airflow.
5. Thick socks
Sweat on the body is more obvious, but sweaty socks can cause many issues, including slippage and, unfortunately, athlete's foot. Thick, moisture-wicking socks can help prevent these problems and keep your feet feeling fresh.
6. Anti-fog spray
Many outdoor players wear sunglasses, and as the game speeds up, players are adopting protective lenses. This is great for eye safety, but if you're sweaty, it can cause vision issues. As your body heats up, your glasses fog. An anti-fog spray can keep your vision clear and your focus sharp.
7. Water bottle
As you sweat, your body loses hydration. It's crucial to bring your water bottle to every game. Bonus points if you bring electrolyte powder to replenish your stores faster. Staying hydrated is key to maintaining peak performance and avoiding cramps or fatigue.
8. Sun shield
The neck is one area where sweat congregates. Protect your neck from the sun to help keep you cool while playing with a sun shield. Pair it with a ball cap to keep your head cool and reduce the risk of overheating.
