Hawai`i is one of the fastest-growing pickleball hotbeds in the U.S. The islands will host the first-ever Hawai`i Pacific Health ESPN Honolulu Open, featuring 38 courts and over 800 participants. One of the highlighted events in conjunction with the tournament is a pickleball clinic led by esteemed Selkirk coach Morgan Evans and current touring UPA pro player Max Freeman.
Evans is a legend of the game, having played professionally since 2016, and is a pioneer of the spin serve—once notoriously difficult for opponents to return. In 2017, he became the sport’s first professional tour pickleball coach, working with some of the biggest names on the circuit. Today, he serves as an advisor for Selkirk and is the general manager and coach of the Major League Pickleball team, the Arizona Drive.
Evans will bring his expertise to the courts at the Hawai`i Convention Center on Thursday, April 10, alongside the talented lefty Max Freeman, for a special two-hour clinic. Evans, who is also a renowned commentator in the pickleball world, will be on the mic for the event finals as well.
“I'm really looking forward to seeing the level of play from the locals, and of course, the incredible scenery Oahu has to offer. Be sure to tune into KHON for the finals on Sunday the 13th when I'll be announcing alongside local legend Sam Spangler,” says Evans.
